Outlaw Star is about two guys, Gene and Jim who run an odd-jobs business on some kind of junkyard planet.
Anyway, as luck would have it they begin a job that sets them running from the space police, various aliens, etc etc etc. So eventually they happen up on the series namesake "Outlaw Star" a mega advanced space ship that can only be piloted with a girl name Melfina. She communicates with the ship in a way that only anime can justify.
So this small crew of people have to run across the galaxy fighting people as they need to.
I know it's not much of a description, but really, there isn't too much to explain. There are odd technologies that do odd things (like grappler ships) and odd enemies that Gene eventually has to fight while using the mega advanced Outlaw Star.
The best thing about this series is the ending theme. It used to be called "Melfina's Song", but that is the title of the english version, which sucks horribly. "Hiro no Tsuki", the closing theme (as they call it now), was one of the driving factors that sparked my interest in anime. It was the most intriguing piece I had ever heard. The imagery in the animation (slideshow...) accompanying the theme basically followed suit.
Now, I wasn't particularly taken with the series, but I really like the theme and have it in my active mp3 collection even now. I'm really not sure why I didn't get too into it, maybe my interests at the time were different than they are now. It seems to be something I may watch again if only to rehash it, but I will most likely not.
6.5/10 (if it weren't for the theme it'd have a 5).
