The latest in the Mario series. It has all the things you love about the Mario series along with some new stuff. General play uses the thumb pad and buttons for movement and jumps and such, but there are plenty of additional mini-type games that require manipulation of the Wii remote itself. A jump spin is done by jumping with A and then flicking your wrist with the remote.
The game is leveled based, and you do have to complete a certain amount of levels to proceed to the next area, but you don't have to do everything if you don't want to. You can open up a bunch of worlds and then come back later to finish up all the incomplete stages. Ultimately I believe there are 110 different stages to complete. That amount alone gives you a long amount of game play. If you are really into it, once you've gone through the game once, you can then play as Lugi through all the levels again. I didn't do this. I didn't even finish up all the remaining 10 bonus levels at the end. They are quite difficult.
Most levels aren't too hard to complete, they just take a little figuring out of strategy. The graphics are good and the music is good and what you would expect from the Mario series. Overall 4 out of 5.
I love this game, they found a way to make a 3d game with a linear level design...even though it doesn't feel restrictive.
Has some great music themes that have been redone with a full orchestra like some old Mario 3 songs. The challenge level is for all groups too, my fiancee has become hooked to this game and she never really played games (in fact she condemned them saying they were only for kids). Now she's at 50 stars and still going.
The flying system is also a huge improvement from the mario 64 flying system, you take off from the ground like a rocket and fly around like a jet, nice and simple, none of that swooshing sweeping crap like super mario world and mario 64
I have 4 more stars to get on this and I will be done! Until I need to replay it with Luigi.
Trying to get it done before Mario Galaxy 2 comes out next month. Can't get over how good this game is, just like the originals.
And finally defeated with both Mario and Luigi, all stars.
My first Wii 100% complete game. The replay with Luigi isn't as boring as I thought it would be, his controls are different enough from Mario to make the levels a bit more challenging. Especially the ones where you have to race your clone, they bumped up the difficulty on those.
Now onto new challenges....smash bros 100% completion

One final star and I get 100% completion on Mario galaxy 2!
