This isn't a poll because I don't care.

So, because this isn't a movie review, it goes in general discussion.

What is wrong with every CG'd humanoid from every Sci Fi movie ever? Why do they still look so retarded and out of place? Is it a requirement, so people don't get too attached to the humanesque organism? Is it because it's too hard?

I've been seeing previews for "Avatar - Subittle of the Main Title", and seriously, my first impression was that it would be awful.
Why?
The first preview I saw was of the blue skinned humanish things, and they look retarded.
The second preview I saw was mainly about explosions, aircraft, and robots. That preview made me think "wtf, I must have been drunk when I saw that first preview, this looks sweet!"

Then the third preview I saw had the stupid humanoids again. Ruuuuuuined it again. Now I just... kinda want to see it, maybe.

They just look awkward, and poor, much poorer than the rest of the movie. Kind of like how George Lucas ruined the Sarlaac pit with some big gay beak.

So, here's my conclusion: The people who make these things (the humanoid CGs) are "furries". MSJ knows what I mean, he met one at AnimeNorth.

So, what do you think?
Actually, I take that back.
Agree with what I think!
Non-human characters have to look human enough to encourage empathy toward them. In the case of Avatar, you are supposed to be rooting for their kind I believe.

Avatar is really supposed to be all about the 3D experience, so I think its going to worth seeing. Supposed to be all new technology, blah, blah, blah, but great and stuff.
Yeah I checked that out after hearing about all the hype and that they spent 10 years making it and all that...first thing I saw was the blue CG guys and just thought immediately...ugh...

I agree, made by furries...shivers at the thought
they're ugly, way too skinny
their faces are horrible
and they're a color that's so hard to believe since we don't' see that as a naturally occurring color anywhere (in most places anyways)

Exactly.

Why ruin what could be a great movie with them?
Wouldn't the plot work the same if they just looked like natives?
I didn't like them either. It kind of cheapened the movie imo. I haven't looked into it at all but if the blue men things are going to be central in the plot then I think that this would have to be a pass for me.

Reminds me of a straight to TV/DVD disney animated film.

Yeah, this is basically exactly my feeling.
They might as well be giant squirrels in a movie about scavenging for food in a carnival.
South Park made fun of it by calling it "Dances with Smurfs". And yes, the blue things are central to the plot. I can tell you the entire plot right now and I have never seen the movie.
I could take a pretty good guess at the plot and probably be 95% accurate
Pocahauntus, or how ever you spell it, you know the one with the indian girl and the soldier...

So, the plot would be ruined if they didn't look like blue catish people?
Like, part of the plot is "they descended from cats, ...and a bluebird".

I'd be satisfied if they looked human, but wore weird clothes/were stronger than normal or something, and just SAID they weren't human. Kind of like the majority of Star Trek aliens.
