Problem is, your right. The fact is that 12 year old brains aren't fully developed to pick up on the more subtle signals of social normalcy. It would be like trying to blame a dog for stepping on the "go" button for a nuke missle. It doesn't know what it's doing(it=12 yr olds). The only way for 12 yr olds to stop pissing people off is to piss people off, and then proceed to reap the consequences of acting like the previously mentioned immature ass.
Not saying that it's ok and to let it go on, I'm saying that the more you use positive and negative reinforcement, the more they'll learn what is and isn't acceptable.
So basically....slap them around abit until they learn, right?
Logic would then tell you to go ahead and nip things in the bud and slap them before they do anything.
"Oww! What was that for?"
"You're 12 right?"
"Yeah..."
"Well, it was for what you were going to do, you ingrate."
if you do that they don't make the connection that if they do something wrong then they get punished.
The way you've got it, they think that if they do nothing they get punished.
Pfft, this isn't about teaching them to better themselves, it's about them being a nuisance.
