Here's the deal. I tried getting this started up in my forum, but no one wanted to jump over there, so I'll start it back up in here.

I have my main story that I've been working on, but I've had this other idea for a more comical book. It would be like a fantasy Douglas Adams book. For those not familiar with Douglas Adams (Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy) it will be a fantasy style story on crack. I would like to try and publish this if it actually gets that far. It will be a kids or young adult story, so keep that in mind when reading and commenting.

So why is this in here then you might ask? Well, its here to hopefully keep me on it to write it, but its also here for entertainment for the rest of you guys. Everyone (even ggeorge) is welcome to participate in the creation of this story. I will give the general setup here in a minute, but I fully except and encourage you guys to add content to the storyline. I will have a thread locked strictly for me to write the official story, but the rest of you can make as many threads with comments and ideas as to what I should change or include as the story progresses. I ultimately will control the flow, but will try and take as many of your good ideas into the book as possible. If this thing does actually get published, I will try and at least compensate all that help with at least a free copy of the book. Beyond that I couldn't say. Getting that far will be the first challenge.

THE SETUP

The general setting is like any other fantasy novel. There are humans, elves, dwarves, and so on, along with all the "bad" creatures, including trolls, ogres and giants. This story revolves around a goblin. Goblins in the world are the grunts. They aren't that intelligent, but are extremely fervent about following orders. Generations of beatings for not following orders exactly have bread extreme obedience into their systems no matter how ridiculous or grandiose the task. If told to do something, they will do it unless totally impossible or told by a superior to stop. Therefore, goblins, unless armed and attacking in battle (but they aren't very good fighters) aren't seen as being much of a threat by anyone, and so are accepted (grudgingly in some cases) in almost all societies.

That's the general world setting, beyond this simple rule about goblins being acceptable pretty much everywhere, anything else is possible. As far as the actual storyline itself (which is totally subject to change) it is as follows: The story has a very basic overall plot. It just follows our goblin (Gronk) in his travels around the world in search of a certain item. Very simple plot. So its just whatever he comes across during his journey that makes up the story. This is where user input is needed. What kind of things or people would he encounter on his travels? You help me decide. I already have some ideas of future things to come across, but not enough just right now to fill a book.

Let the "ultimate story" commence. Big Grin
Reading your description, are your goblins childlike or are they just kind of stupid adults?
Small creatures that are adults. Not necessarily entirely stupid, just do exactly what they are told for fear of pain or death. Just go with it. Wink Its doesn't have to make sense and be 100% consistent in the story.
Just to clarify, in a nutshell, you're looking for some situation suggestions for the Gronk story. Right?

For example:

"One day Gronk should come across a centaur with a massive goblin fetish, he pukes fervently and tries to escape the obviously more mobile pursuer."

Yes, you are correct except, MSJ will not be making any cameo appearances in this story. Wink Also I'm going to try and keep it PG. Young adult books seem to be more accepted and have a wider audience if I actually put something together that I could actually sell.
My guess is that the reason you're not getting a lot of response is because your request for input is more than one sentence long.

...you do know what kind of crowd frequents this place, right?

With this comment, you still expect them to read your rants? Big Grin
I don't want/need input/readers on my rants. I just want to post them "a la rant".

Besides, the only situation where I expect there to be readers is when people are bugging me to post new rants. Don't pester me to post a new rant when I've got 2 with only 4 views each, I'll post one when I'm good and ready.

Sounds like a new rant topic...?
Hmm, nope.
