Am looking at the new Axis and allies board games the 1940's editions. I have to ask is a board game that measures 5' by 32'' too big?
Isn't that just a combination of the original and pacific versions? Each of which were easily 2.5' square...

I don't really like that game. Your roles are too constrained.

In Europe if you're Russia you basically sit there and try not to die too quickly while Germany rapes your face off, then Britain secures all the convoys, and the US sits there till it has enough money to buy the biggest army possible. If Germany kills Russia before that happens, Germany wins, if not, allies win.

In Pacific if you're Japan you basically have to win in 2 turns, so it's basically complete luck. If you get good roles in your first two turns, you win. If not, Allies win. If you're India you try to fend off Japan because you're its only real target. If you're USA you, again, sit there till you have enough money to buy the biggest army possible.

Not a fan.
Ah i suppose but I don't think they have France new zealand and Italy as separate countries. Plus none of my buds know the tactics and will Likely be shite in their tactics. Plus you can mod the rules.
There's a version of the original where you can play Italy as a separate country. It spices things up a bit by giving Germany an ally.... but really, Germany needs to ally.
