There is alot of risk to that.
Technically it's not illegal to grow cannabis plants. It's only illegal to harvest them. Good luck trying to prove they're just for decoration though..
Wouldn't growing them fall under possession of a controlled substance? Laws might be different in UK and US. In Florida it's not illegal to posses mushrooms because they grow wild here. But you have to prove you found them in the wild which most people can't. It's a law that makes a lot of people think they can easily get away with possessing shrooms when they can't.
Also if you have more then one or two on you, youll be hit with the intention to sell.

Couldn't people just grow them in "the wild".

Either way. I doubt it'd be easy to convict someone growing shrooms, as basically anyone with a basement and zero extra electricity could easily grow them.
We dont have basements in florida. Anyway you could probably "grow them" in the wild. But all a cop would have to do is wait till you harvest them and then snatch you. If you have more then one or two on you your not really protected.
But officer, I just like to collect mushrooms!
